Cyber Bullying

With the world of online social network sites comes new issues. Cyber bullying is one of these new issues that that is being addressed by social institutions such as all different levels of school from elementary through high school, even college. More and more people will take their problems and feelings towards others on social network sites such as Facebook or MySpace.
Ive recently seen and increased amount of advertisements against cyber bullying, making people aware of it, and trying to prevent it. The problem is users using social network sites to belittle others to a larger audience that would normally know or see. It is very embarassing to the individual. They obviously would not want information making fun of them posted, replicated, and the persistency that the comment will be online forever, with others commenting as well. Just a few months ago, a girl committed suicide due to cyber bullying. It is continuing to become a larger issue in America and Im sure we'll see more and more ad's calling for the prevention of cyber bullying.

  1. I feel like cyberbullying only was only done in elementary school. It is sad to see that people are not growing up and still using the internet to bully people as adults. The video you posted was very interesting. It proved a good point that many times people would not say the things in person that they would say online.

  2. I agree with liz, I thought cyber bullying was something of the past and just a little fling that people were engaging in when the internet first started to become popular. I really enjoyed the video as well, it made geat points and justified your post.

  3. Bobby, I think this topic of cyberbullying is a very important issue one to address, especially in light of all the recent tragedy that has occurred as a result of cyberbullying and the internet. While the internet can be a very powerful and informative tool it can also be a very dangerous tool when utilized for the wrong reasons. I think it is important that parents are monitoring their children more closely online to prevent them from caving to peer pressure and becoming a cyberbully or becoming a victim of cyberbullying! And as for adults being cyberbullys, well that in my opinion is unacceptable. Social networking sites need to be used to foster healthy relationships and interactions...not marginalize and harass people. Good post, I think it is something we should discuss further in class!

  4. Bobby, I liked your presentation today. Cyberbullying is actaully a big problem and in some ways worse than bullying in person because people say things they wouldnt have the courage to in person.
